Confirm the substrate and assembly

Provide drawings and details showing where foam is specified, the required type and thickness, the substrate, assembly transitions, penetrations, and any coating or covering required over the foam. Identify areas with existing insulation or surfaces that need repairs. Scope clarity matters at edges and intersections as much as in open field areas.

Plan access and protection

Show ceiling heights, deck geometry, obstructions, equipment, and areas that must remain operational. Document the access route for crews and materials, the proposed lift or scaffold plan, and surfaces or equipment that require masking. The plan should also account for other trades working above or below the application area.

Coordinate site conditions

Agree on ventilation, work-area isolation, temperature and moisture constraints, power, lighting, and the sequence with roofing, mechanical, electrical, and finish work. The manufacturer requirements and project specification should govern application conditions and quality checks.

Define inspection and turnover

Before work starts, decide how thickness and coverage will be verified, who inspects concealed areas, and which documents the project team needs at closeout. A clear inspection path reduces rework after other trades cover the installation.
